Zambia is an African country, south of the Congo and north of Botswana.   It is traversed by the magnificent rivers of Luangua, Luapula, Kafue and Zambesi.   Tourism to many game parks is growing, and facilities are becoming more prolific yearly.

Zambia is a democracy, its capital Lusaka, undisturbed by coups or civil war.  It has a population of about 11 million, of whom approximately 5% are employed.   The minimum wage is US$1.00 a day.  Rural poverty levels are at 90%.   Life expectancy, now that AIDS has taken hold, is 37, due also to malaria and TB.  (Jubilee 2000)  For all their problems the people are friendly and welcoming to visitors.   Smiles will greet you everywhere.
